Los Angeles is a city of endless possibilities, but sometimes it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you’re looking for a great way to spend a weekend, consider taking a 2-day trip to one of the many amazing towns and cities near Los Angeles. Below are some of my favorite places to go to for a weekend trip from Los Angeles.

Weekend Trip to Santa Barbara

santa barbara

Santa Barbara is a beautiful city located about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. It’s known for its stunning beaches, Spanish-style architecture, and world-class wineries. There are also plenty of things to do in Santa Barbara, from visiting the Santa Barbara Museum of Art to hiking in the Santa Ynez Mountains.

Weekend Trip To Ojai

Ojai

Ojai is a small town located in the Ventura County mountains. It’s known for its laid-back atmosphere, natural beauty, and abundance of yoga studios. There are also plenty of hiking trails in the area, making it a great place to get away from it all.

Weekend Trip To Palm Springs

palm springs

Palm Springs is a desert resort town located about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. It’s known for its hot weather, luxurious spas, and golf courses. There are also plenty of things to do in Palm Springs, from hiking in the Joshua Tree National Park to visiting the Palm Springs Art Museum. There are some great hotels such as the Marriot Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel, but my personal favorite is renting a private house and just relaxing by the pool. Given its only a 90 minute drive from Los Angeles, Palm Springs is one of my favorite.

Weekend Trip to San Diego

san diego mission beach

San Diego is a major city located about 120 miles south of Los Angeles. It’s known for its beaches, theme parks, and world-famous zoo. There are also plenty of things to do in San Diego, from visiting the Gaslamp Quarter to hiking in Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. I love San Diego and enjoy visiting at least once a year. If you have small kids – Legoland is a must as well as the San Diego Zoo. One of my favorite resorts to stay at is the Paradise Point. It actually has a resort type feel right on the beach.

No matter what you’re looking for in a 2-day trip, you’re sure to find it in one of these amazing towns near Los Angeles.

How to get there

The best way to get to these towns will vary depending on your starting point in Los Angeles. However, some of the most popular options include:

  • Car: If you have a car, it’s the most convenient way to get to these towns. Just hop on the highway and go! This is my favorite as the drive can be enjoyable (if you do not hit traffic of course)
  • Public transportation: There are also public transportation options available, but they may take longer. You can take the bus or train to many of these towns.
  • Airplane: If you’re short on time, you can fly to one of the airports near these towns. However, this is typically the most expensive option.

Best time to go

The best time to go to these towns will vary depending on what you want to do. If you’re looking to enjoy the beach, the best time to go is during the summer months (June-August). However, if you’re looking to avoid the crowds, the shoulder seasons (May-June and September-October) are a great option.

Things to do

There are many things to do in each of these towns, so you’re sure to find something to keep you busy. Here are a few ideas:

  • Santa Barbara: Visit the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, hike in the Santa Ynez Mountains, or take a boat trip to Channel Islands National Park.
  • Ojai: Go hiking in the Los Padres National Forest, visit the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, or take a yoga class.
  • Palm Springs: Visit the Palm Springs Art Museum, hike in the Joshua Tree National Park, or play golf at one of the many courses in the area.
  • San Diego: Visit the San Diego Zoo, explore the Gaslamp Quarter, or relax on one of the many beaches.
