It’s difficult enough to travel with children, thinking about all of the things to pack and the process of going through the airport. Luckily the TSA has a separate guideline for children who appear to be 12 years old and younger.

Can I take baby formula, milk, and baby or toddler food as carry-on?

Parents and caregivers can bring as much baby formula, breast milk, toddler drinks, and baby/toddler food as they need in their carry-on baggage, even if it is more than the 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters allowed for other liquids. These items are considered medically necessary liquids. Cooling accessories for breast milk and formula, such as ice packs, freezer packs, and gel packs, are also allowed in carry-on baggage, even if they are partially frozen or slushy. Your child or infant does not need to be present or traveling with you to bring breast milk, formula, and/or related supplies.

If you are traveling with formula, breast milk, toddler drinks, or baby/toddler food (including puree pouches) in excess of 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters, be sure to tell the TSA officer at the beginning of the security screening process. it is recommended that formula and breast milk be transported in clear, translucent bottles and not plastic bags or pouches.
